It makes me sad that the Bible has become separated from its family. I want to know how that happened- I want to know the story. :) I love antique stores- there are so many stories. I like that you don't have to completely strip the old finish off--just clean, then lightly sand the surface. This color is Espresso, they have a few other choices as well, but it needs to be darker than whatever you're covering. I STRONGLY recommend trying it on a "practice piece" first so you can get a sense for how it works–it's a little different than staining natural wood, and it works a little differently than other products as well. You can stain over old stain and it has ployeurathane in it as well, so you don't have to varnish after. It's a little tricky to get used to, and you have to work kinda fast--once you brush an area, it layers on darker if you hit the same area again, so you have to be really careful and deliberate. Let it dry thoroughly, but once it's dry, it has a really nice smooth finish that's easy to clean, dust etc. (I'm not even sure if these are the instructions on the can, my dad had used it before so I was familiar and just did it the way he did–in our last house, I stained bathroom cabinets, our headboard, stair railing, kitchen table...all not hard once you get a sense of how it goes on! Good luck :-)Maralee [Oleson] Nelsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12638885041259500350noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8514989381743709834.post-10881139205408756322014-07-17T07:50:38.353-06:002014-07-17T07:50:38.353-06:00Could you explain the process for changing the col...Could you explain the process for changing the color on the surround? I'd have been heartbroken to not get any photos, it is such a beautiful and amazing place, but if they had been holding services when we were there, I certainly would have felt uncomfortable and wouldn't have been taking photos either. I'm glad I was able to take photos for both of us to enjoy!Maralee [Oleson] Nelsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12638885041259500350noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8514989381743709834.post-4567157992738312552012-09-25T23:59:57.730-06:002012-09-25T23:59:57.730-06:00Waaay back in 1998, we went to NYC and stayed in a...Waaay back in 1998, we went to NYC and stayed in a hotel right across the street from St. Pats. I agree it's stunning and beautiful. However, since we were only in NY for a long weekend, we only had time to stop inside once, and wouldn't you know it? They were holding Mass and we didn't feel it was appropriate to hang around snapping pics. The photos you captured are beautiful and show the detail I wish I had seen! I'm glad you waited to get your camera battery!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11729624735843262739noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8514989381743709834.post-34301088212019872012-06-18T16:50:50.577-06:002012-06-18T16:50:50.577-06:00there were carved faces all across the building--w...there were carved faces all across the building--we were in a double-decker bus so I was high enough to get a decent angle, but I could only get one before we moved again. I'm being much more careful about repinning from original sources, and making sure that they have indicated something about being okay with their items or ideas being shared. I went through a bunch of my pins and deleted many & repinned a few.
